Elevator Musician
Elevator Musicians are entertainers hired to staff the elevator cars which run from Tiry’s Tower in The Reek to the Pu Dijk space station high above. Because the 250-mile long journey takes 30 minutes to complete, Reekian officials decided there should be someone inside each of their automated lifts to provide a pleasant distraction to any and all passengers. And thus, the buskers of Eden had a new way to launch their careers into orbit.

Qualifications
The entertainer in question must be a musician. Early on, other performers were given a try—clowns, comedians, and magicians among them—but the decision was soon made, thanks to the December Debacle, to limit applicants to singer-songwriters only.

Payment & Reimbursement
Elevator Musicians are paid a small hourly rate for their services and subsist mostly on tips. That said, the amount of gratuities earned varies widely from musician to musician and from shift to shift. Interestingly enough, the highest earner of all time was a Second Age kazooist who was given a veritable fortune not to play by noted Reekian industrialist Aldar Evermark.
Other Benefits
It’s a surefire way to lift yourself up out of The Doldrums, The Depths, The Pits of Despair, or whatever other low-level neighborhood in the megacity you come from. That’s for dang sure. Just don’t blow all your tips up there on that good-for-nothing space station, or you’ll be right back where you started.
