Kingdom of Motherland
The Kingdom of Motherland was a country in the southern part of Eden during the First and Second Age. Founded by primarily by elves, it was a human-dominated nation by the time of its incorporation into The United Kingdom of Wonderland in 263.
During the first decades of the Second Age, the kingdom became infamous for its extreme levels of wealth inequality. Workers revolts were common, especially after the Famine of 126-127. Threats against the royal family waxed and waned, depending on the monarch at the time. And hardships throughout the country led to one nationwide mental health crisis after another.
Some hope came in the marriage of the inept Alexey I to the famous “girl of the forest” Gretel der Jäger—a faith which was rewarded when Gretel’s son Alexey II came of age. But then the children of Alexey II went right back to bungling things.
By the time of Frieda Jacobs, the future Queen of Hearts, the capital city of Motherland was so rife with crime and corruption that “the mean streets of Watersmeet” were infamous across all of Eden.
Yeah, probably for the best that Motherland is now a defunct kingdom. Sounds like it was a bit of a headache. XD
Yes, for sure. I thought it was important to figure out what made the "mean streets of Watersmeet" so mean, given that I use that phrase in my current work-in-progress. I think by the modern day the region is probably an OK place to be.
