Baldur had given his life to save his people and his planet, but his final act came too late. Fenrir was dead, but the damage he had caused proved lethal. The howling pain of Fenrir was quickly replaced by the pulsing booms of the Worldsoul struggling to hold itself together. With each pulse the rumbling of the earth grew louder, and the shining city of Valhalla crumbled into ruins. Finally, the Worldsoul collapsed and sent a colossal shockwave across all of Asgard. Not even the screams of terror could be heard over the deafening roar. The Energy Worldsoul was no more.

But that was not the last of the conflict. The fire giants proceeded to hunt down every last Aesir on the planet. With the Worldsoul gone, none of the Aesir technology functioned. No weapons, no Bi-frost, no escape. Loki met his end at Sutr’s blade, as did the rest of his people. None were spared, and at the end of their hunt, the Muspelhir shouted their victories into the night and their cruel laughter echoed across the flaming ruins of Asgard. The Aesir race was now effectively extinct.

However, their celebrations were quickly halted by the strange sound of something approaching over the horizon. Sutr and his men went to investigate thinking it was more Aesir attempting a feeble resistance, but were instead met by a gigantic snake with fangs taller than even the giants themselves. The legendary Jormangandur had arisen from the depths of the sea, and was primed to exact vengeance for it’s fallen home. A fierce battle ensued, but the giants had met their match. The serpent was simply to fierce for the giants to gain an edge. The creature’s venom spray melted everything it touched, and reduced the giants into simmering puddles.

But Sutr, knew something was amiss. The serpent’s strikes were too organized and skillful for this to be an ordinary beast. There was an intelligence behind every move the creature made, a type of tactical precision. The reason was made clear when the world snake rose its massive head to devour another giant and he saw Hel standing atop Jormangandur’s gigantic head, commanding his every move with her telepathic abilities.

This, was her master plan. Hel had wanted to ensure that her people would be safe from all threats, and she would stop at nothing to see that goal achieved. She had lured them all here to destroy each other, and now she would deliver the final blow herself.

Hel and Jormangandur slaughtered the Muspelhir with as little mercy as they had slaughtered the Aesir. Finally, Sutr took the final stand alone. He managed to pull Hel from her pedestal and leave a deep gash in the world snake’s eye. He then raised his sword to deliver another slash, but was overpowered by the furious serpent and crushed between it’s tooth filled jaws. Sutr struggled to his feet, but heard death calling his name, and turned his gaze one last time at the woman who had brought his demise. He thought of how meticulously she had planned the whole plot, and how none of them had seen her real intentions. They had all fully believed they were the king in this game of kingdoms and planets, but they were only pawns. Sacrificial members in her final assault. Sutr leaned upon his sword’s hilt, and began to chuckle. He laughed at the irony of it all, and he continued to laugh until he wheezed out his final breath, and went limp upon his sword.

She had done it. Justice had finally been delivered. Never again would her people need to fear anything that came through the Bi-frost. They were cut off to everything outside their home world, but they were safe. They were free, and they would forever be at peace. Hel breathed a sigh of relief, shedding a flow of tears knowing that she would not be around to see her people’s glorious future. She would never get to see her daughter lead them into prosperity, but it was well worth the sacrifice. She used the last of her fading energy to put Jormagandur to rest deep under the ocean, and then found one of the very few trees to remain untouched by the chaos. Then, silence. Both Hel and the planet sat quietly, resting from the doomsday that had just ripped its way across the land. In time, a gentle breeze blew in from the sea, and carried Hel off to her eternal rest. Ragnorok, had ended.
