Gwen noticed the change in the air on the way back. It was uncomfortable, eerie to her. The relative cheer of a nice morning had been replaced by a grim miasma. It was subtle, but the longer she walked the stronger the sensation became. By the time she reached home she could already see people packing things and getting ready.
When she entered the shop again she saw her father, the shop owner Pyoter Sazanov, his pregnant wife Katarine, and his young son Mark. They stopped talking when Gwen entered the Shop but immediately called her over to explain what was happening. There was nothing she could say about it.
"We're going to pack up and we'll head out today. From the word passing around, your father and I will be made to stay. Katarine and Mark will be evacuated. We're not sure about you however. We think that if you're with Katarine you may be able to get through, but we're not sure." Pyoter rubs the back of his neck uncertainly. "We're going to have you carry as many supplies as you can in the hope they'll let you through."
Gwen nods. "Alright. What do you want me to do?" They immediately began collecting things for the evacuation and making plans. She packed what little she knew she could carry, some clothes, an extra bag of supplies, and her mother's gifts.
