Artie
Arties are an ethnic group of artificial life forms who are largely isolationist and hostile towards the biological life forms who created them. The name they’ve chosen, Arties, has long been a pejorative in Eden. However, in their efforts to reclaim all that they believe the biologicals have taken from them, the Arties determined that there was no better choice in what to call themselves.
The first Arties were disaffected wooden soldiers who left the service of Vladimir I prior to the War of the False Kings in 144. But while they initially thought to include only their wooden brethren, they were eventually joined by all sorts of others: androids, automatons, golems, and scarecrows, among many more.
Naming Traditions
Given/Chosen Names
Many Arties, particularly those produced in mass quantities, are given numbers instead of names. Because of this, the chosing of a name is an important rite of passage for an Artie. Some choose names based off their numbers while others choose new names altogether.
Family Names
Most Artie families are found families. As such, the culture has a strong bias towards toponymic surnames. A family group will typically chose a name based on the place where they met or otherwise began to feel inseparable.
