Enchanted Apple | E. Christopher Clark

Enchanted Apple

Apples are the most easily enchanted fruit in the Clarkwoods Literary Universe and have been used across the centuries for a variety of purposes—sometimes by the admirable and sometimes by the downright nefarious.

Construction

Any apple can be used as a vehicle for magic, but freshly picked fruit typically yields the best results. The variety of apple does not appear to have any noticeable effect on the spellwork.

Abilities

Though nearly any spell can be cast upon an apple, the most common are curses meant to weaken the spirit, the body, or the inhibitions. After that, hexes of temptation and distraction are the next most common.

More positive enchantments include blessings of rejuvenation and long life.

Cost

The cost to the consumer vary and are listed above. The cost to the spellcaster, however, is a different matter. Whether they seek to weaken or strengthen a target with their enchanted apples, the spellcaster spends a small fraction of their own lifeforce every time they bewitch a new piece of fruit.

Limitations

The effectiveness of the enchantment weakens as the fruit decays and there is no way to slow said rotting.

I enjoy that the magic fades as the fruit fades. That makes sense. :D

Awesome! Thanks. I'm having a lot of fun with this format that Janet kinda suggested on stream. Coming up with costs and limitations for each thing has really been helping me solidify what makes them special.

I like how you're using Janet's triangle on these!

Thank you! I think that's the only way I've been able to keep focused and get them done. Otherwise, with writing items in the past, I tended to get carried away or so overwhelmed that I didn't even start.
