Laudine de Landuc

Laudine de Landuc, Lady of the Fountain, was a powerful Nalkénean noblewoman during the Second Age of Eden. The daughter of a world-famous perfumer and the ambitious entrepreneur who made a fortune off of the legendary Fountain of Ink, Laudine parlayed her parents’ good fortune and her own good looks into significant political power—both in her hometown of Fairwallow and throughout The Grand Duchy of the Garden.

Though many know her best as the supermodel who convinced the world to start wearing her mother’s most famous scent, or else as the wife of Esklado dab Mol and Yvain le Fay, Laudine was far more than a pretty face. She used her inherited wealth and the influence she cultivated throughout her life to champion one charitable cause after another. From her efforts to improve the safety of childbirth throughout Eden to her numerous campaigns to increase funding for the treatment of postpartum depression, from her very public support of the Council of Five‘s investigations into the wrongdoing of The Wizard of Oz to her steadfast support of halfling rights during a time when public opinion was still firmly against the species, Laudine never met a cause she would call “lost.”

Because of Fairwallow’s affection for their village’s favorite daughter, a statue of Laudine was erected at the entrance to town. She wore a fierce but beautiful look upon her face and people would come from miles around just to look upon it. However, late in the Second Age, the Ceaseless Cyclone struck the town and transformed the statue. These days, it is known as the Wailing Widow.

These days, the statue’s face is locked in a permanent, blood-curdling scream.
