Hakon
Things were quiet in the streets of Jomkeep, as they were throughout the rest of the world. Election day had finally come, and the feasts had come to an end. Not so much the drinking and eating as the ruckus.
Hakon had dreaded this moment for weeks. He always knew who he would vote for. He just could never admit it to Frea or even himself. Maybe he just hoped that someone better would come along. He had no love for Clan Lynch, had more cause to hate them than most people.
Dagfinn was there at the end. The Battle of Creek, above the world that battle took it’s name from. It was his own brother that had lured King Rodger Ash Dawn into that ambush. Yet it hadn’t been Dagfinn that had given the order for the ambush.
There had been warships of the Jom that refused to join Imperial Lord General Osborn Lynch, and the forces of King Harwyn Lynch Aegis, Lord Erik Worth Aegis, and King Reagan Ironsides Aegis in that battle. The three largest branches of the ancient clan that shaped Furse Space and the Empire which once ruled it. So of the Jom warships such as Hadyn Payne had even refused to abandon the King of Highpass and fought until there was no hope of victory.
Hakon could hate the Lynches, he had lost many friends in that battle, along with his king. It had also forced him into exile. Yet he could not deny that it seemed the whole of Furse Space had united against King Rodger. King Rodger was bent on converting all of Highpass to his new faith, the faith of the Fabians, and he reached to far when he tried to claim the lands of his new wife.
That was all in the past though, and for Hakon there was a simple fact. Who was the best to lead the Jom. Who had the most experience. He didn’t have to like it, but the simple fact was that Dagfinn Lynch Aegis was the best candidate for the job. As much Frea might deny it, the general was also an honorable man with reputation and a large and powerful group of supports.
The other candidates were minor lords, anyone of not already supported Dagfinn Lynch, and he had only gained more while he stood in as acting Imperial Lord General until this vote could take place. Most were fools. Nobles with too much ego and too little skill. Those who put up a challenge just because they did not support Dagfinn or House Lynch, like Frea. None had anything of worth to offer though.
Hakon let out a long sigh as he stood in front of the screen with the list of names of those who wished to become the next Imperial Lord General. He could vote against the man just to say that he did, but what would that say about him. That he would put his pride above what he knew was best.
Hakon tapped the screen. Dagfinn Lynch was many things, and Hakon didn’t have to like it, but the vote was his, and although Frea wouldn’t understand, he knew that he was the best for the job. He tapped the screen again to confirm his vote. Lives could be on the line if he voted for the wrong person, his own, Frea’s, and others. He didn’t have to like it, but he knew it was the right choice to make, the only real choice.
