Glass Casket
Glass Caskets in Eden are cryonic pods used for the preservation of sapient beings suffering from terminal illnesses, a task undertaken in the hope that a cure for said illnesses will one day be found. A dwarven invention, the technology was first tested on Sadie Winters in the year 140.
Construction
A mattress and pillow sit atop a complicated temperature regulation system and beneath a canopy of translucent triple-paned glass. The entire device is designed to appear as a spartan but beautiful coffin.
Abilities
Each casket is capable of preserving a single person in the cryostasis in perpetuity, so long as power remains uninterrupted.
Cost
After being woken from cryosleep and cured of whatever was ailing them, glass casket survivors are plagued by cold flashes for the remainder of their lives.
Limitations
Each casket requires a substantial amount of uninterrupted power. This was a particular challenge in the preservation of Sadie Winters, given that she took ill in the technology-fearing Edenian South—where any electricity was scarce, let alone the uninterrupted kind.
As such, the dwarves rigged Winters’ casket to run on a combination of solar, wind, and geothermal energy.
'... glass casket survivors are plagued by cold flashes for the remainder of their lives.' Ugh, horrible. I can't imagine anything worse. Great idea!

Thanks! I don't think I would've come up with that except for Janet's excellent tip about making sure all magic (or technology, in this case) has limitations.
