Adam Gates

Adam Gates was a game developer from Chelmsford, Massachusetts. The younger brother of rock star Robin Gates, he made headlines himself when he killed their father and then himself in 2006—only to be overshadowed once again by his famous sibling when she was murdered later that year.

A teenage love interest of his sister’s longtime girlfriend, Ashley Silver, Adam was a conflicted soul right from the start. Constantly pressured by his father to be a “real man,” Adam was never happier than when he was reading a comic book or playing a video game. Though he tried his hand at sports, it never took. And though he tried to listen to his mother when she told him he was a good-looking boy, despite not being the athlete that his father was and wanted him to be, Adam suffered from a crippling inferiority complex.

Though his actions can never be excused, Adam Gates was not the villain the press painted him to be. He was a person desperately in need of help who never did get it, and who too often felt like he had no other choice but to take matters into his own hands.
