Ferryman’s Robes
The Ferryman’s Robes are a cursed set of garments worn by the Ferryman in the Clarkwoods Literary Universe.
Construction
The robes were crafted from the wool of a black sheep and designed to be as uncomfortable as possible. Even before a wearer understands the supernatural nature of the garments, they are aware of how sticky, clingy, and itchy the fabric feels against the skin.
Abilities
The robes protect the wearer from regular, prolonged exposure to the Veil of the World, the waters of The River Without End, and the Undercurrent. They stop the wearer’s natural aging process, eliminate any need for sustenance or sleep, and render the wearer immune to any and all communicable diseases.
Cost
The wearer may carry nothing that wasn't already on their person at the moment they accepted the robes. They may not move further than five feet from Bateau de la Mort. And they may not remove the robes until they have convinced another living, sapient being to carry them.
Upon removing the robes, the aging process begins anew, the now former wearer finds themselves insatiably hungry, and their skin is marked with enormous red welts from where the robes clung to them throughout the duration of their service.
Limitations
The robes will not stop a third party from killing their wearer. However, in the event that their wearer is killed, they will immediately bond with the killer and force said person into service.
I'm hypersensitive to clothing textures and this makes my skin crawl just thinking about what it'd be like to touch them. Gross!
Yeah, I was building upon some details I'd written into my short story "The Price" and my novel The Elixir of Denial, but even I got grossed out by how far my brain wanted to take this.
