Frederick I

Frederick I, King of Yesterland, was perhaps better known for his singing career than his time spent on the throne. A founding member of the acapella group Chord and Shield, he sang throughout his life and at venues throughout the whole of Eden—only retiring at age 50, when he has crowned as king.

Born Frederick Switzer in the year 140, he was conceived on the night of a blue anvil. And it was because of the magic of said evening that he had two biological mothers and no biological father. Where the Y chromosome came from, nobody is certain. It was said by many that it must’ve been plucked out of the aether by the sister goddesses themselves, given what a perfect and unproblematic specimen of masculinity Fred was.

He first met his future wife, Astrid D’Helena, at court during the reign of his mother Gwendolyn. And though they were parted for many years because of experiments by Astrid’s parents which led to the family’s exile from Old Ludditon, the two reconnected while attending Yesterland Academy. Fred, who could’ve had any girl on campus for his wife, remembered his old love fondly, and lobbied his mothers hard to allow Astrid back to court.

After they married, he was henceforth known as Frederick Astridsman—in keeping with a tradition of taking on the name of one’s wife which was established by his mother Gwen. Then, for many years, two toured Wonderland and the rest of the nations of Eden—inseparable until Astrid’s early and untimely death in 171.

Frederick mourned the loss of his wife for a good, long time, but eventually opened himself up to love again. He never married again, however.
