Frederick II
Frederick II, King of Yesterland, was a brooding, melancholy monarch who struggled to live up to the lofty expectations of happiness set by his father. Both in looks and in personality, he more strongly resembled his mother’s side of the family—his maternal grandfather, in particular.
Born Frederick Switzer, Jr. in the year 160, he was a surprise for his college-going parents. That said, his impending arrival played a large part in his paternal grandmother allowing his one-exiled mother back to court. Both of his paternal grandmothers, Gwendolyn and Ella, were thrilled to welcome “Little Freddie” to the family and they doted on him for years—years his parents spent touring the nations of Eden in support of Fred I’s music career.
Though he loved his grandmothers dearly, young Frederick II felt abandoned by his parents and ultimately felt that he would have to make his own way in the world. He began studying the papers left behind by his maternal grandfather, a brilliant but mad scientist, and delved deep into the study of flesh golems. Then, after consulting with his exiled maternal grandmother, he set out on an expedition to The Nunyan Wastes to try and find the creature which his grandparents had created together.
After traveling as far north as he could go, Frederick II did indeed find his grandfather’s monster—still alive despite a pledge it had made to itself to die by self-immolation years before. And though it took some doing, Fred convinced the creature to travel back to Old Ludditon with him—promising a companion and absolution if the creature agreed.
Free from the burden of the crown until he was near 60, Fred spent much of his adult life studying and interviewing his grandfather’s creation. He took time off to get married and to have a child of his own, but he became so engrossed in his studies that he managed to become every bit the absentee parent that his own parents had been.
