Tristan Pendragon
Tristan Pendragon
Tristan Pendragon, King of Promiseland, was a scandalous figure in Edenian history. Sent to far-off Neverland as an escort for his maternal uncle’s bride-to-be, Tristan fell in love with the woman on the journey home. And she fell in love with him right back. Then, to add insult to injury, the two of them decided to ditch ol’ Uncle Mark and get hitched themselves.
The marriage of Tristan to Isolde and Isolde’s spurning of her affianced led to a brief war between Promiseland and neighboring Motherland, a conflict which ended only with Tristan’s killing of Mark in battle. And even then, tensions between the two countries remained high until Queen Frieda united the seven kingdoms of Wonderland under one banner in the year 263.
Born the son of King Leon in 214, Tristan grew up in a time of peace. He spent time in the court of his mother’s family in the Motherlandian capital of Watersmeet and spent a good deal of his life wandering the mean streets of that city in disguise. For every lesson he learned of civilized life up in the castle, he learned three times as much from the ruffians and street urchins and strumpets who called the place home. The toughness and street smarts he acquired in those years made him the perfect person to escort someone across the sometimes harsh Wonderlandian wilderness, and that’s how Uncle Mark came to call on him to go and fetch Isolde from Neverland.
Unfortunately for Mark, the moral flexibility which Tristan developed during his time in Watersmeet was exactly what convinced the lad it was OK to follow his feelings and run off with the beautiful young woman he was supposed to deliver to his uncle.
