Belanor

Belanor is a critically endangered linguistic descendant of Old Elvish. While still spoken in the Fakrana Valley on the elven homeworld, most of its speakers are in fact members of the ichthyothrope mafia who dominate Neverland’s Mermaid’s Lagoon.

The language is distinguished from other descendants of Old Elvish by its lack of Moldése influence. The first speakers of Belanor were conscientious objectors who refused to partake in the elves’ regular invasions of the Kíndallan homeworld of Gadalla. Therefore, they were never exposed to the Kíndallan languages as most other elves were.

It arrived in Eden during the Second Age and passed along to merfolk population at that time. They have used it ever since as a secret language to keep their illicit communications from being understood by authorities.

I do enjoy your commitment to making "one of each". This is a cool take on a thieves cant.

Thank you! I actually failed this year, somewhat intentionally, by not writing a prose piece. It was really stressing me out and I decided to just end the streak here so I wouldn't be tempted to carry it on to next year.
